3. Your PTI is required to follow regulatory requirements for advertising of programs and services offered. For example, PTIs cannot guarantee employment to a student or prospective student. The regulations include most traditional forms of print advertising, but not online advertising. Do you feel online advertising should be regulated as well?

4. Instructor qualifications are regulated by the Department of Advanced Education, Skills and Labour (AESL). Every instructor must have a combined six years of education and work experience in a related field to teach at a PTI. AESL is considering including specific requirements for minimum work experience and ensure good standing with a regulatory body where one exists (e.g. instructor for massage therapy must be in good standing with the College of Massage Therapists). Please indicate your level of agreement:

5. Flight training instructors are currently exempt from the requirement to be approved under the regulations. As a result, AESL has no information on the qualifications of these instructors (other than they are certified by Transport Canada). AESL is considering the registration of flight instructors so their qualification and expiration of those qualifications are on file to ensure compliance with the regulations. Please indicate your level of agreement:

6. Every student must sign a contract with a PTI outlining the course of study, tuition fee for the course, total cost of materials and equipment, etc. In the event you must void the contract, regulations state it must be done by giving written notice by registered mail. AESL is considering removing “by registered mail” and allowing students to request withdrawal from the program by email copied to the Superintendent. Please indicate your level of agreement:

7. The sections of the regulations relating to student refunds are complex and difficult to understand by students and for PTIs to administer. AESL proposes to improve these sections to better protect students and also establish a more streamlined refund process. Based on your understanding of the student refund process (as outlined in your student manual), are there specific areas you feel could be improved?

8. PTIs are required to retain your student record for 50 years after you leave school. Your student record currently includes everything that is in your file, including diplomas, transcripts, tests, sick notes, work term reports, criminal record checks, etc. AESL proposes refining the definition of student record to include only the transcript of marks and diploma/certificate awarded.
