Taking action on drinking water safety is a priority of the Provincial Government. Access to clean and safe drinking water is fundamental to human health, and action to help ensure drinking water safety contributes to a healthier population.
The Government of Newfoundland and Labrador is seeking input to help inform the Drinking Water Safety Action Plan in order to support its ongoing commitment for the provision of clean and safe drinking water for all residents in the province. The development of a Drinking Water Safety Action Plan is being led by the Department of Environment and Climate Change (ECC) as part of the Minister’s mandate letter Mandate Letter - Honourable Bernard Davis (gov.nl.ca) in partnership with other Departments including Health and Community Services, Digital Government and Service NL, Transportation and Infrastructure, and Municipal and Provincial Affairs.
The Drinking Water Safety Action Plan will be a collaborative document with input from government departments that play a role in drinking water safety, stakeholders and the public.
Public engagement will help to:
determine baseline awareness on drinking water issues in the province,
collect feedback on which issues are seen as a priority, and
identify and prioritize actions to be taken to help address these issues.
